itinerary…

Saturday 18 July

We’ll meet in the morning for the short trip on the Eurotunnel, before driving into France to our first hotel - a unique stay next to the Seine in the Grand Est, in time to chill out in the grounds and take a dip in the pool before a gourmet dinner - we are in the home of Haute Cuisine after all!

Sunday 19 July

We’ll thread our way out of France, across to the foot of the Swiss alps.  The scenery really steps up a notch today- there’s something special about seeing those peaks rise in the distance..  Time to relax in the Aare Valley, or maybe a little run up the Grimsel pass before dinner.

Monday 20 July

Mountains.  BIG MOUNTAINS. Spectacular mountain roads and epic scenery are the order of the day.  A dawn drive out will be an option for the keen ones, but otherwise a leisurely breakfast beckons before tackling some of the famous passes, including an often overlooked gem, and taking in some of the local sights before finishing for the day up on the Klausenpass.

Tuesday 21 July

Taking a scenic route north, past Lake Zurich and into the bottom of the Black Forest / Schwarzwald. More beautiful roads, along lakesides and mountain passes.  From the rugged peaks and glaciers of the Swiss alps, to the spectacular Rhine Falls, then we’ll transition to the mountains of the Black Forest - very different, but no less dramatic.  Our first night in Germany is spend at the top of a mountain pass near the Todtnauer Waterfall and Suspension Bridge.  Enjoy the views from the pool and spa, unwind and relay the stories of the day.

Wednesday 22 July

We really delve into the Black Forest scenery today - we could take the short route to Stuttgart, but with views like these that would miss the point.  We’ll meander our way north, this is Forest Bathing - Road Stories style.  We’re not going to give too much away, but we will cover some hidden gems that we love, and more stunning scenery to boot.

Thursday 23 July

The Porsche Museum is something of a rite of passage for petrolheads and car enthusiasts - but even if you have only a passing interest, the story of the automobile told through the Porsche lens is an enthralling experience.  It’s not just looking back either, they showcase the developing technologies (like them or not!) making their way into our cars and influencing the development of transport. After a morning here, you’ll be ready to get back out in the open air, stretching the legs on the autobahn before winding through the Mosel Valley, another scenic highlight of the trip. Our spa hotel is just north of the Mosel valley, and a lovely spot to relax.

Friday 24 July

We’ll head through the Eifel Natural Park (home to numerous volcanic lakes), before crossing into Belgium. We’re starting the homeward run now, but that doesn’t mean we’re just heading along the motorways.  We’ve more engaging roads, sights and scenery to to take in, we’re not done yet!. Tonight’s hotel is another special and unique stay, this old farm has been transformed into a tranquil country retreat.  Perfect relaxation space before heading back home tomorrow

Saturday 25 July

A relaxed breakfast to start the day. Then we’ve a short drive back to Coquelles, before it’s back to Blighty through the Eurotunnel, and time to head home, with a bunch of new stories, new friends, and experiences you’ll look back on for years.

Special notes : Toll roads & Swiss vignettes

For practicality, some of the route will be on Motorways and Toll roads. These allow us to spend more time on the fun stuff! Toll charges are not included unless otherwise noted.

We’ll be using some of the French “péage” toll roads - We strongly recommend a TAG available from https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/

This makes life at toll booths a lot easier - you don’t always even have to stop and the whole group can keep moving together.

A Swiss Motorway Vignette will be required. These are available digitally from https://via.admin.ch/shop/dashboard for CHF. 40, or we can obtain them for you at face value.

We haven’t included these as some people will already have them and we don’t want include unnecessary charges.
